Breakfast, lunch, swimming and a leisurely drink by the Caribbean Sea

Some of our favourite mornings in Barbados begin with a leisurely coffee overlooking the Caribbean Sea. Pier One at Port St Charles is somewhere we love returning to, whether it’s for breakfast, a relaxed lunch or simply a cold drink and a dip in the water.

Just north of Speightstown, in St Peter, it’s a lovely place to slow down and spend a few hours beside the sea. We’ve visited for meals, and sometimes we simply call in during the afternoon for a beer or cocktail. That’s part of its appeal: you can make a day of it, or just pop in.

Breakfast, lunch or just a coffee

There’s something particularly enjoyable about sitting under the covered, open-sided restaurant, with the sea breeze coming through and boats nearby. We often enjoy a coffee while taking in the views. If you’re looking for a leisurely breakfast or lunch in the Speightstown area, Pier One is well worth considering.

Make a relaxing day of it

If you’d like to spend several hours there, our tip is to arrive early. On our visits, sun loungers have been available without an additional charge when dining at the restaurant, subject to availability. Policies can change, so do confirm the arrangements before you go.

Bring your swimwear and a towel: you can enjoy the water from the deck, and there’s also a small pool with a swim-up bar. We like being able to swim, relax, have something to eat and then sit a little longer enjoying the view. As with any sea swimming, check conditions and use the access points carefully.

Comfortable facilities and easy parking

There are toilets, showers and changing facilities, which make a longer visit much easier. We’ve also found parking straightforward. That combination of food, drinks, places to sit and somewhere to freshen up makes Pier One especially convenient when you fancy a relaxed day by the water.

Sometimes it’s just a drink

Not every visit needs to be a big outing. We’ve often called in for a drink, enjoyed the view and occasionally had a quick swim. It’s one of those places where even a short stop feels like part of the holiday.
